My hot water system is leaking. Does it need replacing?

It depends entirely on where the water is coming from. Water at the relief valve drain is often just the valve or excessive mains pressure, and both are repairs. Is it worth repairing a hot water system, or should I just replace it?

Use the age of the unit as the deciding factor. Under 8 years old, repair almost every time: elements, thermostats, thermocouples and valves are inexpensive parts and the tank has years left.
