Brick and tile, a bathroom sitting near the middle of the plan, a laundry with an external door, and a hot water unit against the outside wall next to it. The streets climb, so no 2 houses in a row sit at quite the same level, and that slope shows up in the plumbing far more than people expect it to.

Height above the plain is the first thing it changes. Pressure in the water main drops as the ground rises, so a house near the top of the Panorama slope sits noticeably lower on pressure than the same house 3 streets downhill. Owners usually blame the tapware, then the hot water unit, then the plumber. The real cause is normally a combination of elevation, a meter valve that was never fully reopened after some earlier job, and 60-year-old copper that has narrowed internally with scale and corrosion product. Why is our water pressure worse than friends further down the hill in Panorama?

Because it probably is. Pressure in the water main falls as ground level rises, so the top of the Panorama slope genuinely receives less than the bottom of it. That said, elevation is rarely the whole story. A meter or isolating valve left partly closed after earlier work, and 60 years of internal scale in the original copper, both take pressure off as well. Those get checked before anyone suggests a pump, because 2 of the 3 causes are cheap to fix.

We have had 2 small copper leaks in a year. Does the whole house need re-piping?

Not automatically, and anyone who says otherwise without looking is selling. What matters is where the leaks were, whether they were on the same run, and what the pipe looks like when it is cut. Finding it and getting it back above the surrounding ground level is a small job that prevents a very unpleasant one.

Can you get equipment down the side of a stepped Panorama block?

Usually yes. Jetting hose and camera reel are carried in and run out by hand, so retaining walls, steps and narrow side paths are an inconvenience rather than a barrier.
