Fullarton was settled in 1849 by James Frew, who named it after his wife Jane Fullarton, and it has been rebuilding itself on the same ground ever since. The streets carry Victorian villas, Edwardian and Art Deco homes and Californian bungalows, with modern rebuilds slotted between them. Fullarton Park Community Centre occupies an 1800s house on Fullarton Road. Why does my Fullarton drain block again a few months after being cleared?

Because the roots were cut, not excluded. On a deep Fullarton allotment the sewer is a long clay run with a mortared joint every metre or so, and a root that has found water through one of those joints regrows into the same gap. Does my Fullarton sewer need relining?

Often not. Relining is the right call when the pipe still holds its shape but the joints have opened, and particularly when the run passes under a driveway, paving or a tree worth keeping. It is the wrong call on a pipe that has already collapsed, on a badly dropped joint, and on a shallow defect sitting in open lawn that can be dug and replaced in a couple of hours.
